Should you vary the RPM to break-in the JD 2210

The owner’s manual says nothing and the dealer said there was no need to vary the RPM to break-in the JD 2210. I currently have 10.6 hours on my tractor. Most of the hours are from cutting grass. When cutting I run the RPM as close to the recommended 540 mark on the tech which is about 2800 RPM and I’m running the tractor at that speed for about 1.5 hours straight with no breaks. Should I cut the grass at the recommended 540 mark or should I cut with the RPM a little lower? I’m a little surprised that the manual says nothing about this and I've read on the Kubota forum that the BX2230 manual says to vary the RPM for the first 50 hours. I hope by doing what I have done does not cause the tractor to burn oil later down the road… What has other JD 2210 users done? Thanks, TOM

I have had two small Kubotas now... a BX22 and presently, an RTV 900. I read every word of both manuals(my German side did it, I can't help it!).

Kubota only sez to refrain from sudden starts and stops and try to avoid full speed ops for the first 50 hours.... not a word I could find about varying the speed.

I have also had two small Deere's. They say put that tractor to work and change the oil at 50 hours.

The only thing I can tell you is that Deere is very conservative and Kubota is more so, and... my oil takes twice as long to turn dark on my Yammar diesels as it does on my Kubota diesels.

Mow as you must, kick it in the butt when you have to, change the oil at 50 hours and let not your heart be troubled. You own one of the finest small diesel engines ever conceived by the mind of man. ....

I know there has to be some JD 2210 owners out there that can tell me what RPM they cut their grass at... I was told to cut at the 540 mark. I also have another question I seem to be getting very bad mileage. How many hours should I be getting to a tank of fuel?

I've always mowed around the 540 mark on the tach--sometimes seems like a different engine speed depending on how thick the grass is. The gas consumption is certainly higher mowing than plowing the driveway, using the box blade or loader. Not sure how long a tank lasts since I fill mine up after it gets around 1/2 empty.
